Johan Ariff Shazuddin

CERTIFIED OZTENNIS INSTRUCTOR & OZTENNIS TEAM SINCE 2016

For Johan, tennis runs in the family. His grandfather, parents, siblings, uncles and cousins, they all play tennis socially and competitively. He was exposed to tennis at a very young age of 6 years old, but started to properly train and compete at the age of 9. His foundation of tennis was built by his parents and his uncle, Tajuddin.

By the age of 10, Johan was already competing and winning regularly at the Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Monthly Medal. Halfway through the year, the organizers suggested that Johan should play a Category above his age, which was Under 12. After winning that regularly as well, he nudged up all the way to Under 16 by the age of 11.

Johan was selected to represent his state of Kuala Lumpur at the age of 10 till 17. During this time he mainly played the National L.T.A.M Tournaments and the Open Men’s Circuit around Malaysia. He was lucky enough to play with players from around the world such as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Uzbekistan, etc. Johan also joined the tennis junior camp at the Duta Complex for skills, social and technical development.

He represented his school from 1999 - 2007, winning multiple M.S.S.K.L Championship to gain a spot in the M.S.S.M K.L Team. The first M.S.S.M competition that Johan joined was in Sarawak, where he beat the No.1 seed Sarawak in a rubber set game.

Johan continued to help his team win multiple M.S.S.M competitions throughout his involvement in the team. Johan reached L.T.A.M highest Malaysian National Junior ranking of 7th in the singles category but achieved 1st in the doubles category. One of his biggest personal achievements for Johan was getting in the SUKMA team and helping his team to get 3rd.

After years of achievement as a tennis player, Johan has decided to pass on some of his knowledge and skills to the next generation of tennis players. He initially joined as a part time coach with Oz Tennis Team in 2016, but has decided to join in full time to develop his technical and coaching skills.
